Belfast landmark disappears
Monday, 4th July 2005

The company developing the Corn Market area in Belfast confirmed that the famous red-topped bandstand, which was removed recently, will not be replaced. Paul Sargent, managing director of AM Development UK Ltd, said that the area will be completely pedestrianised as part of the £300m Victoria Square scheme. The bandstand had a brick podium and had been a fixture in the area for over 50 years, acting as a stage for numerous people from street activists to musicians and preachers. Work on the Corn Market project is expected to be completed by September of this year.
