Record flight across Rathlin SoundRecord flight across Rathlin Sound
Monday, 28th August 2006

Members of the Ballymoney Model Flying Club have set a record by flying a model aircraft from Ballycastle to East Lighthouse on Rue Point, Rathlin Island and back to Ballycastle. The flight of the Precident T240 replicated the route taken by Marconi's first wireless communication across the Sound and it was escorted by the "Katie Hannan" from Portrush and the "Dorothy Mary" from Red Bay. The flight itself was overseen by three club members, Andrew Wallace, his uncle Robert Wallace, and finally Stanley McKeown who saw to the refueling and take-off for the return flight.
